No. 3 Tarrel Farm Cottages is a renovated traditional farm workers' cottage situated on the estate of Meikle Tarrel Farm.  Situated half a mile up a private track from the main road to the beautiful coastal village of Portmahomack on the Dornoch Firth in Easter Ross, the cottage sits in the middle of over three hundred acres of farmland.  Beyond the cottage the private track continues through a pine forest to the Moray Firth coastline and Tarrel beach.  The cottage has stunning panoramic views across both the Dornoch and Moray Firths.

ABOUT

ABOUT

The cottage, which sleeps up to 5 people + capacity for child under 2 in travel cot, is an excellent base for exploring the Easter Ross area or for touring further afield to the Black Isle, the stunning West Coast and the Isle of Skye or the mountains of Sutherland and Caithness.  It is situated a few miles off the A9/North Coast 500 route and golf, fishing, mountain biking, walking, kayaking and seal and dolphin watching trips are amongst the many activities available nearby.  This area of the Highlands is renowned for its low rainfall and therefore does not suffer with the dreaded West Coast midges!

The seaside village of Portmahomack is a popular holiday destination.   As well as a fantastic award winning sandy beach, there is a well stocked village shop & PO, the renowned Oystercatcher restaurant (seasonal), the newly reopened pub The Castle Hotel and a selection of small cafes, all of which serve locally sourced produce.  There is also a harbour, the fascinating Tarbat Discovery Centre as well as a challenging 9 hole golf course.  The impressive Stevenson-built Tarbatness Lighthouse is situated within a nature reserve at the far end of the peninsular.

The adjacent 'Seaboard' villages of Hilton, Balintore and Shandwick are nearby with a replica of one of the famous Pictish standing stones at Hilton of Cadboll (the original being in the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh).

Larger towns nearby include the ancient Royal Burgh of Tain, with its wide array of shops, banks, supermarkets, hotels and restaurants as well as a challenging golf course, and the beautiful cathedral town of Dornoch with its famous Royal Dornoch golf club and boutique shops.
